La Carolina es un municipio jienense (España) situado al norte de la provincia de Jaén. Fue capital y sede de la intendencia de las nuevas poblaciones.
Las Nuevas Poblaciones de Andalucía y Sierra Morena fueron creadas hacia 1767, durante el reinado de Carlos III, y suprimidas en 1813.
La creación de las Nuevas Poblaciones se produjo durante el reinado de Carlos III y se debe a un proyecto ilustrado elaborado por Campomanes y encomendado a Pablo de Olavide. Consistía en poblar las grandes extensiones despobladas existentes en el curso del Camino Real de Andalucía con el objetivo de favorecer la seguridad del tráfico de personas y mercancías que circulaban por el camino de Andalucía, especialmente de los peligros derivados del bandolerismo.
La iniciativa pretendía implantar una nueva organización social, liberada en cierto modo de las restricciones jurisdiccionales del Antiguo Régimen. Para ello se redactó el Fuero de las Nuevas Poblaciones, que regulaba los aspectos de la vida económica y social de los colonos.
La aplicación La Carolina virtual es una aplicación móvil para la difusión de contenido turístico y urbanístico de La Carolina, a través de 15 hitos de Realidad aumentada.
Durante el recorrido por La Carolina el visitante encontrará las diferentes baldosas que marcan los hitos. Mediante tecnología de posicionamiento, la app nos permite ubicar un terminal móvil dentro de un mapa con 15 los hitos marcados donde se podrá disfrutar de la recreación 3D a través del giroscopio y acelerómetro. También se incluye la posibilidad de girar mediante gestos táctiles.
Durante el recorrido nos acompañará Joaquinito Steiner, un trabajador de la torre de perdigones de ascendencia colona, ya que sus abuelos vinieron de Alemania en la época de la fundación de La Carolina. Aunque se trata de un personaje ficticio, se basa en una familia real: Los Steiner, original de la región de Constanza.

The initiative sought to establish a new social organization, liberated in some way from the jurisdictional restrictions of the Old Regime. For this purpose, the New Populations Charter was drawn up, which regulated the aspects of the economic and social life of the settlers.
La Carolina virtual app is a mobile application for the dissemination of tourism and urbanistic content of La Carolina, through 15 milestones of augmented reality.
During the tour around La Carolina the visitor will find the different tiles that mark the landmarks. By means of positioning technology, the app allows us to place a mobile terminal within a map with 15 marked milestones where you can enjoy 3D recreation through the gyroscope and accelerometer. Also included is the possibility of turning by tactile gestures.
During the tour we will be accompanied by Joaquinito Steiner, a worker from the munitions tower, a man of colonial descent, since his grandparents came here from Germany at the time of the foundation of La Carolina. Although he is a fictional character, he is based on a real family: the Steiner family, originally from the region of Konstanz.
